Nain startled by another community fire alarm

Yesterday evening the town of Nain was again startled by the sound of fire alarm.

Constable John McBride is with the Nain RCMP detachment.

He says the call came in at around 6:40pm.

Constable Mike Kenny was on scene for the RCMP.

According to Kenny, the fire started in a bedroom.

A mattress and chair were destroyed by the blaze.

The fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived.

He says there is some smoke damage to the walls.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

McBride says it looks like it may have been started by a lit cigarette.

The scene of the fire was declared safe in under an hour.

  1. This is a great turn around from when the fire started and the alarm went off until when the scene was declared safe. Impressive! It also underlines the importance of having an accessible fire extinguisher and a prompt and expert Fire Alarm System that will provide early detection and warning.
